The Nigeria National League (NNL) has confirmed Owerri, the Imo State capital, as the host city for its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM), where stakeholders will meet to finalise key decisions ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The meeting, scheduled for Friday, August 21, is expected to bring together all 36 participating clubs, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), league administrators and other stakeholders as preparations intensify for the new campaign.
NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana announced that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma approved the league’s request to stage the AGM in Owerri, describing the gathering as one of the most important events on the league’s calendar.
“We are delighted that the sports-loving Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has magnanimously approved NNL’s request to host our AGM in Owerri. This is one of the most important events in our calendar,” Alanana said.

The AGM will serve as the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season, with Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi expected to attend alongside club representatives.
According to the league’s itinerary, clubs will arrive in Owerri on Thursday, August 20, before the AGM the following day, with departures scheduled for Saturday, August 22. The exact venue will be communicated to participating clubs at a later date.
Among the major issues expected to dominate discussions are the roadmap for the 2026/27 campaign, club licensing requirements and proposed amendments to the league’s rules and regulations.
The meeting is also expected to provide clarity on operational guidelines and competition standards ahead of another demanding season in Nigeria’s second-tier league.

Alanana praised Governor Uzodimma for supporting the event, saying the state’s commitment to sports development made it a fitting host for the league’s annual gathering.
Last year’s 16th NNL Annual General Meeting was hosted by the Kaduna State Government at the 5th Chukker Resort in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State.
