Christantus Uche has lifted the lid on his difficult spell in England, as Getafe confirm the midfielder will return to the club following an underwhelming loan at Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old endured a frustrating campaign at Selhurst Park, struggling for consistent opportunities under head coach Oliver Glasner. His last appearance came two months ago, when he featured for just nine minutes in a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Across the season, Uche managed only seven appearances, with a single start coming in the FA Cup. Notably, he failed to start a Premier League match far from the expectations that followed his arrival from Getafe at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite flashes of promise in Europe where he scored twice in four games during the early rounds of the Conference League Uche was later dropped from the squad to accommodate new signings, effectively halting his momentum.

Speaking candidly in an interview with Read Crystal Palace, the midfielder did not hide his disappointment.

“I may not have much playing time, but I am grateful for the fans who continue to support me and the team,” he said.

“I hope to make you proud whenever I do get the chance to play, but I know maybe it won’t happen again because the coach doesn’t like me.”

His remarks underline a breakdown in trust between player and manager, offering insight into why his spell in London failed to take off.

That outcome has now been formally confirmed by Getafe. Sporting director Toni Muñoz stated that the Nigerian will return to Spain after failing to meet the appearance threshold required to trigger a permanent transfer.

“It’s a given. The player hasn’t met the required number of appearances; it is clear he is coming back,” Muñoz said.

Uche’s struggles at club level have also had wider implications, with his lack of game time reportedly costing him a place in the Super Eagles setup during the period.

With his return to Getafe now confirmed, attention is already shifting to his next move. The midfielder is expected to seek a permanent transfer this summer, with interest reportedly emerging from clubs in Germany, France, and Italy.
