Nigeria win inaugural West Africa Para Volleyball title after dominant displays

Nigeria have claimed the inaugural West Africa Zone A & B Para Volleyball title after completing back-to-back straight-sets victories, finishing with a commanding 3–0 win over Ghana.

The team opened their campaign with a gritty 3–0 (25–13, 25–20, 25–22) win against Niger Republic in what proved to be their most competitive match of the tournament.

In the game against Ghana, Nigeria took control from the first serve. They raced to a 25–10 win in the opening set, tightened their grip with a resounding 25–6 second set, and closed out the third 25–16 to seal the championship in emphatic fashion.

President of the Paravolley Federation of Nigeria, Kayode Ladele, said the victory was a testament to the board’s long-term investment in growing the sport.

“It makes me feel achieved, since we have been putting works into developing paravolley in Nigeria. People can now see the results in the open. You cannot challenge victory, victory is victory.”

Technical Director and Head Coach, Priscilla Agara, praised the federation for ensuring the team remained active on the international stage, including at the 2024 Paralympic Games qualifiers and the Paravolleyball Club Championship.

“The win is a massive one for Nigeria. It confirms our status in the West African sub-region. We are grateful to God for the victory and I want to thank my players for bringing the gold home.”
