Niger Tornadoes began their 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL) campaign with a 1-0 win over Nasarawa United at the Kwara Sports Complex.
The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when debutant Terdoo Shimagande, a July signing from relegated Heartland, volleyed home to hand the Ikon Allah Boys the lead.
Ironically, Shimagande’s only goal last season came against Tornadoes, but this time he struck in their colours to secure all three points.
The hosts started brightly, with Dalhatu and Joseph Godstime causing problems for the Nasarawa backline. Their pressure paid off when Abba Khalid picked out Shimagande in the box, and the striker finished confidently past goalkeeper Nchekwube.

Nasarawa United improved after the restart and pushed for an equaliser through their midfield duo, but Tornadoes’ defence, led by Sunday Akinmoladun, held firm.

Goalkeeper Nchekwube needed treatment in the first half but was able to continue, while Tornadoes suffered a setback when Godstime was forced off injured in the 64th minute.
Coach Majin Mohammed introduced Kufre Ebong late on for Shimagande to help preserve the lead, as the visitors piled on late pressure. Tornadoes, however, stood resilient to claim victory.
