Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has warned his players against complacency after their emphatic 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars lifted the Jos club to third in the Euromatch-NPFL standings.
The Peace Boys recorded the convincing win at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, handing Kano Pillars their first defeat of the 2026/27 league campaign.
Paul Samson and experienced midfielder Ekundayo Ojo scored in the first half to put the hosts in control before Samuel Ayanrinde and Nenrot Silas added two more goals after the break to complete the rout.

Despite the impressive result, Ogunbote urged his players to remain humble, reminding them that the league campaign is a marathon rather than a sprint.
“The league is a marathon. We won’t allow it to get into our heads. This is just one out of the 38 matches we are going to play this season,” Ogunbote told reporters after the match.
The victory takes Plateau United to third place with 14 points from eight matches, having recorded four wins, two draws and two defeats after matchday eight.

While acknowledging the importance of the result, Ogunbote expressed confidence that the club’s supporters would have more reasons to celebrate as the season progresses.
“But it is a good one for us, and I can assure you that the supporters will also be happy at the end of the season,” he added.
Plateau United will now look to build on the momentum when they host Sporting Lagos in their next Euromatch-NPFL fixture.
