Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen reportedly turned down a transfer to Manchester United in 2020 due to his respect for fellow Nigerian player Odion Ighalo, who was part of the Red Devils’ squad at the time.
According to Osimhen’s brother, Andrew, Victor didn’t want to compete with Ighalo for a starting position, showing great admiration for the senior player.
During his time at Lille, Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester United. However, he ultimately chose to join Napoli, where he would go on to become a key player.

Ighalo, who had joined Manchester United in 2020, had initially started well but saw his form dip, eventually leaving the club with just five goals in 23 matches.
Fast forward to today, and Osimhen’s situation has changed dramatically. After leading Napoli to Serie A glory, he finds himself out of favor under Antonio Conte, who has Romelu Lukaku as his main striker.
Last season, Osimhen was loaned out to Galatasaray, where he continued to showcase his scoring ability. Now back in Italy, he’s on the transfer list, with Manchester United still potentially interested in securing his services.
