Senegal FA considers disciplinary action against Pape Gueye after international strike threat

The Senegalese Football Federation is reportedly considering disciplinary action against Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye after he announced he would boycott the national team until the current coaching staff is replaced.

The Senegalese Football Federation (SFS) is reportedly considering disciplinary action against midfielder Pape Gueye after he publicly declared he would refuse future national team call-ups until the country’s current coaching staff is replaced.

According to reports from the Associated Press, federation officials are angered by the Villarreal midfielder’s comments, which came in the aftermath of Senegal’s dramatic FIFA World Cup Round of 16 defeat to Belgium.

The Teranga Lions saw their World Cup campaign come to an end following a 3-2 extra-time loss, with Gueye substituted in the 66th minute before the match slipped away from the African side.

In a strongly worded social media post after the defeat, Gueye criticised the technical crew led by head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw and announced he would step away from international football for as long as the current management remains in charge.

His public declaration has reportedly infuriated officials within the Senegalese Football Federation, who view the ultimatum as a serious breach of internal protocol and a move capable of undermining unity within the national team.

The federation is now assessing possible disciplinary measures, although no official decision has yet been announced.

Gueye’s stance was not popularly welcomed, sparking debate among Senegalese football supporters, with some backing the midfielder’s right to express his frustrations while others believe internal grievances should be handled privately rather than through public statements.
