Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea legend, John Mikel Obi, has made a startling admission, revealing that he has given up on convincing Victor Osimhen to join the Blues.
Despite his earlier efforts, Mikel now acknowledges that the Nigerian forward is unlikely to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
The 2012 UEFA Champions League winner has been outspoken about his concerns regarding Chelsea’s attacking options, particularly criticizing Nicholas Jackson’s performances since the start of the 2023/24 season.
However, while Mikel has made it clear that he believes Osimhen would be a perfect fit for Chelsea, he now admits that convincing the striker is no longer within his control.

Mikel’s Honest Thoughts on Osimhen’s Move to Chelsea
During an appearance on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel candidly expressed his admiration for Osimhen’s qualities and explained why he believes the forward would be an excellent addition to Chelsea.
“His hunger when he plays, the ambition he shows, and the feistiness he has are qualities few players possess. These are the traits you need to succeed in the Premier League as a top striker. I can see a great partnership happening,” Mikel said.
Despite this, Mikel acknowledged that he has already done his part in trying to bring the Napoli star to London, but he respects the club’s decisions if they choose not to pursue the deal further.
“I’ve said what I have to say, and I’ve done my part. If the club chooses not to pursue it, fair enough. The player has many options. Good luck to him, good luck to Chelsea. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen,” Mikel concluded.
Mikel’s Efforts to Keep Osimhen Away from the Saudi Pro League
Mikel also reflected on the summer, when he advised Osimhen against moving to the Saudi Pro League, urging the young striker to focus on his European career, particularly at Chelsea.

However, Mikel conceded that the financial allure of Saudi Arabia’s offers could be too tempting to turn down forever.
“At some point, your head gets turned. You have family members, parents, and others talking to you about generational money. You can’t keep putting it off forever,” Mikel explained.
Though Mikel had hopes that Osimhen would opt for a move to Chelsea, the reality of the Saudi offers might ultimately lead the striker elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Osimhen continues to thrive at Galatasaray, where he is enjoying a successful loan spell, having scored 28 goals and contributed five assists in 32 appearances.
His remarkable form has drawn the attention of numerous top European and Middle Eastern clubs, all eager to secure his services.
