Nigeria-eligible striker Kion Etete has returned to Cardiff City after his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers came to an end. The 23-year-old joined Bolton in January, playing five games for the club, all as a substitute, before returning to his parent club.
Etete’s loan spell at Bolton was marked by a lack of game time, which may have been due to his ongoing recovery from a hamstring injury. Despite this, the striker has expressed his gratitude to the club and its fans for the opportunity to play for Bolton.
Etete joined Cardiff City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022 and has made 63 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring nine goals. The striker has been open about his desire to play for Nigeria, citing his eligibility through his father. Etete’s international aspirations have been well-documented, and he has previously spoken about the honor it would be to represent the Nigerian national team.

Etete’s talent and potential have not gone unnoticed, with the Nigeria Football Federation reportedly taking an interest in him while he was still at Tottenham Hotspur. As a dual-national player, Etete has the option to represent either Nigeria or England, and it seems that he is leaning towards playing for the Super Eagles.

With his loan spell at Bolton now over, Etete will look to establish himself as a regular starter for Cardiff City. The striker will be hoping to regain his form and start scoring goals consistently for his club. Given his talent and potential, it’s possible that Etete could still catch the eye of the Nigerian national team and earn a call-up in the future.
