Kelechi Iheanacho finally reveals the decision that took him from Celtic to Bursaspor

Kelechi Iheanacho has opened up about his move from Celtic to Bursaspor, explaining what convinced him to embrace a new challenge in Turkish football.

Kelechi Iheanacho has explained the thinking behind his move to Turkish second-division side Bursaspor after his loan spell at Celtic, revealing that the club’s history and the seriousness of the opportunity helped convince him to make the switch.

The Super Eagles striker joined Bursaspor after spending last season with Celtic, where he scored nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Despite contributing to Celtic’s domestic campaign, Iheanacho ultimately moved on after the Scottish club delayed offering him a new contract.

Speaking to Bursaspor’s official media channel, the 30-year-old explained that transfer negotiations were largely handled by his representatives and club executives, allowing him to concentrate on football while the details were discussed.

“To be honest, I don’t talk much about transfer negotiations. I’m just trying to focus on my football. The transfer talks were handled between agents and executives. Of course, I was aware of the transfer negotiations and everything,” he said.

What convinced him to choose Bursaspor

Iheanacho said his agent kept him informed throughout the process, explaining the opportunity before the striker decided it was the right move.

“My agent told me that contact had been made and explained everything to me in detail. I was happy and said, ‘I think this is a good and interesting place.’

“We reviewed everything together and saw that it was a quite serious, concrete contract and situation. Then I said, ‘This is a good place to go; they have a good history and past.’ That’s why we said we could come here moving forward. We were a bit delayed, but in the end, we’re here and enjoying every moment.”

His comments offer an insight into why he opted for a new challenge in Turkey rather than continue waiting for clarity over his future in Scotland.
