Nigeria-eligible international Josh Maja has claimed yet another end-of-season accolade at Championship side West Bromwich Albion, this achievement has further solidify his impact during the 2024-2025 campaign.
Just four days after being named the Men’s 2024-2025 Top Goalscorer, and has convincingly netted 12 times in 26 appearances—the Baggies confirmed via their official website that Maja has now also been awarded the prestigious Goal of the Season prize.
The striker, who missed the latter half of the season due to a lower-leg injury requiring surgery, was recognised for his stunning stoppage-time strike in West Brom’s 1-1 draw against Luton Town on 1st November 2024.
The goal, which came against former Chelsea and Nigeria winger Victor Moses’s Luton side, was voted the most spectacular effort by a West Brom player across the entire campaign.
Maja’s moment of brilliance arrived at Kenilworth Road when he met Karlan Grant’s low cross with an audacious flick, putting the Baggies ahead. However, Tahith Chong’s equaliser later ensured the points were shared.

The Nigerian’s exquisite finish triumphed over strong competition, including Isaac Price’s superb volley against Hull City and John Swift’s pinpoint free-kick at Turf Moor, to claim the Ideal Heating 2024/25 Men’s Goal of the Season award.
Despite his club success, Maja’s international career with Nigeria has stalled since his debut in a September 2019 friendly against Ukraine, where he came on as a late substitute for Victor Osimhen.
The Sunderland academy graduate has not received a call-up to the Super Eagles in over five years, leaving his international future uncertain.
Notably, Maja—born in London—remains eligible to represent England’s Three Lions, as he has yet to feature in a competitive fixture for Nigeria.
This dual eligibility adds an intriguing layer to his career trajectory, particularly if he continues to impress at club level.
While his injury setback curtailed his involvement in the second half of the season, Maja’s contributions when fit were vital for West Brom, earning him recognition as one of their standout performers.
As he works towards full fitness, both club and international prospects will be closely watched in the coming months.
