Atlético Madrid close in on Ademola Lookman after matching €40m Atalanta valuation

Atlético Madrid have moved closer to signing Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman after agreeing a €40m transfer package with Atalanta.

The La Liga side have matched the Serie A club’s valuation with an offer of €35m plus €5m in performance-related bonuses, equalling a proposal made by Fenerbahçe. However, the Turkish club are yet to finalise payment terms and bank guarantees, leaving Atlético well placed to progress the deal.

Talks between Lookman and Atlético Madrid are also advancing, with the Spanish club improving their salary proposal to around €5m per year on a contract running until 2030. Fenerbahçe have offered a higher annual wage of approximately €8.5m on a four-year deal.

According to Sky Sport Italy, Atlético and Atalanta have already reached an agreement on a fee slightly above €40m, including bonuses, as discussions with the player continue.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that both Atlético Madrid and Fenerbahçe are still awaiting Lookman’s final decision, with the 28-year-old forward weighing his next move.

Lookman is out of Atalanta’s squad for their league match against Como, a development has signified his time in Bergamo is nearing an end.

The forward joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022 for a reported €15m and quickly established himself as a key figure.

His spell at the club peaked in May 2024, when he scored a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final to secure Atalanta’s first major European trophy with a 3–0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, the first hat-trick in a one-off men’s European final since 1969.
