NFF relaunches elite coaching pathway with CAF A-Licence return after nine-year absence

The NFF has announced fresh CAF B refresher and CAF A-Licence coaching programmes as Nigeria officially returns to the CAF A-Licence convention after nine years.

The Nigeria Football Federation has unveiled an ambitious new coaching education programme as part of its renewed effort to strengthen technical development across Nigerian football.

The federation confirmed that arrangements have now been concluded for both a CAF B-Licence refresher course and a new CAF A-Licence programme, marking Nigeria’s official return to the CAF A-Licence convention after a nine-year absence.

The CAF B-Licence refresher course is scheduled to hold between June 20 and June 24, 2026, while the CAF A-Licence course will run for seven months across six modules from August 2, 2026 until February 7, 2027.

NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen described the programme as part of a wider strategy to improve coaching standards and technical capacity nationwide.

“This is part of the NFF’s strategic effort to build the capacity of coaches across the country,” Eguavoen stated.

Nigeria’s readmission into the CAF A-Licence convention is seen as a major breakthrough for coach development within the country after nearly a decade outside the elite certification structure.

The federation also confirmed strict eligibility requirements for interested candidates seeking admission into the programme.

Applicants must currently be active coaches at elite levels including national teams, the NPFL, NNL, NWFL or NLO. Candidates are also required to possess a CAF B diploma, demonstrate English proficiency, and have access to a laptop or tablet throughout the programme.

In addition, coaches must be computer literate, medically fit both physically and mentally, and submit a curriculum vitae alongside a reference letter.

The NFF revealed that only 25 candidates will eventually be selected for the CAF A-Licence programme.

Successful applicants will first undergo both virtual and physical pre-course assessments between June 1 and June 23, 2026. These assessments will test game analysis, presentation ability, reading and writing competence, as well as computer skills.

A CAF CMS link will then be provided to the successful candidates after completion of the pre-assessment process and CAF B refresher course.

The federation also disclosed the financial requirements for participation.

Nigerian coaches applying for the CAF A-Licence programme will pay ₦3,000,000, while foreign applicants are expected to pay $3,000 each.

Meanwhile, participation in the CAF B-Licence refresher course will cost Nigerian coaches ₦700,000.

Applications for the CAF A-Licence programme will close on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
