Mohamed Salah has officially completed his move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, bringing the curtain down on his glittering Liverpool career and opening a new chapter with one of the country’s most ambitious clubs.
The Egyptian captain’s arrival ends months of speculation over his future, with Trabzonspor winning the race for one of world football’s biggest free agents despite interest from clubs across Europe, Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer.
Long before Salah officially pulled on Trabzonspor’s famous claret-and-blue colors, however, one banner had already captured the emotion surrounding his arrival.

Those words, proudly displayed by an emotional supporter waiting among hundreds of fans at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport, perfectly summed up the significance of the moment.
The welcome felt less like the unveiling of a new signing and more like the arrival of a football icon whose achievements have transcended clubs, leagues and continents.
For Trabzonspor, this was far more than another summer signing. It was the arrival of a global icon whose achievements have transformed clubs, broken records and inspired millions across the football world.
The Turkish Super Lig side officially confirmed Salah’s arrival on a free transfer, bringing an end to one of the transfer window’s longest-running sagas after weeks of speculation linked him with Besiktas, Atletico Madrid, Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Diriyah, as well as interest from Major League Soccer.

Despite lucrative opportunities elsewhere, Salah opted to continue competing at the highest level in European football.
Trabzonspor carefully built anticipation over several days, first announcing negotiations with the 34-year-old before confirming his arrival in Turkey for medical examinations and contractual formalities.
The unveiling finally arrived with a video showing Salah wearing the club’s colours for the first time.
“To the fans of Trabzonspor, are you ready? See you soon,” the Egyptian captain said.
He then delighted supporters further by ending his message in Turkish.
“Bize Her Yer Trabzon.”
The phrase, one of the club’s most famous chants, translates roughly as “Everywhere is Trabzon to us,” reflecting the deep connection supporters feel with their club regardless of where they are.
It was a small gesture, but one that immediately strengthened the bond between player and fans.

Few footballers arrive in Turkey with a resume comparable to Salah’s, his nine-year spell at Liverpool established him among the greatest players in the club’s history.
Across 257 goals for the Reds, Salah helped deliver virtually every major honour available, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.
Individually, he collected four Premier League Golden Boots and three Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year awards while rewriting numerous scoring records at Anfield.
Even in Liverpool’s 2024/25 Premier League-winning campaign, Salah produced 29 league goals and 18 assists before seeing his role diminish during his final season under Arne Slot. His departure closed one of the most successful eras enjoyed by any Liverpool forward.

Trabzonspor have never lacked ambition. nicknamed the Black Sea Storm, the club has won seven Turkish league titles, although only one has arrived in the past four decades following their memorable triumph in 2022.
Yet attracting a player of Salah’s stature represents a completely different level of statement.
Turkish football has previously welcomed global names including Didier Drogba, Robin van Persie, Roberto Carlos, Wesley Sneijder, Mesut Özil and Samuel Eto’o.
Salah now joins that elite list while arguably arriving with an even stronger recent pedigree than many of those stars possessed when they moved to the Super Lig.
For a club that has often built its squad around emerging talent and smart recruitment, convincing one of African football’s greatest-ever players to choose Trabzon signals a bold shift in sporting ambition.
