Kun Khalifat FC have moved to quash reports that the Owerri-based Nigeria Premier Football League club is being put up for sale, with President Rita Amefula insisting that the club remains firmly under its existing ownership.
Amefula addressed the issue in a recorded message after reports circulated on social media claiming that the club’s majority shares were being transferred to a prospective buyer.
She described the reports as false and said Kun Khalifat’s recent moves were instead centred on strategic partnerships with notable brands.
“I’m here to debunk a rumour that’s been spreading on the social media space of late, stating that the club is up for sale,” Amefula said.
“No, Kun Khalifat FC is not up for sale.”
The president explained that the club had entered into strategic partnerships, with Cupid Technology Limited already unveiled through its official social media platforms.

She added that more partnerships are expected to be announced as the club continues its preparations for the new campaign.
‘The club is not up for sale’
The clarification comes after reports claimed that Kun Khalifat’s shareholders were in the process of handing over majority shares of the company to a prospective buyer.
A purported communication to the NPFL had been cited as the basis for those reports.
However, Amefula’s statement presents a different picture, with the club president explicitly rejecting the suggestion that Kun Khalifat is being sold.
“Whoever is putting out those rumours to confuse the public should stop,” she said.
“And anyone that wants to work with whosoever that is put in there, you’re doing that on your own risk. Kun Khalifat FC is not up for sale.”
Her comments place the focus instead on the club’s commercial strategy and its efforts to build relationships with corporate partners.
Preparing for another NPFL campaign
While the ownership rumours spread, Amefula said the club’s attention is firmly on the upcoming 2026/27 NPFL season.
She revealed that the club’s chief executive officer was attending the NPFL Annual General Meeting in Ibadan as preparations continue for the new campaign.
Kun Khalifat are also preparing for the league’s return later this month, with the 2026/27 season scheduled to begin on August 28.
