Asisat Oshoala celebrates the man who helped shape her football journey with car gift

Asisat Oshoala has made a heartfelt gesture towards the people who shaped her journey, bringing a former mentor a moment of joy after years of work in football.

Asisat Oshoala has once again demonstrated that her rise in football has not made her forget the people who played important roles in her development, with the Super Falcons striker making a heartfelt gesture towards one of the coaches who helped shape her early career.

The former FC Robo forward has maintained a relationship with the Lagos-based club and its founder, Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa, whose contribution to the development of women’s football in Nigeria extends beyond the players he has personally nurtured.

Osahon’s influence on Oshoala’s journey dates back to her teenage years, when she joined FC Robo in 2009. The coach provided an environment for her talent to develop, offering guidance and support as she pursued a career that would eventually take her to the highest levels of the women’s game.

That relationship was brought into focus again on Thursday when Oshoala presented Osahon with a brand-new Toyota Highlander in appreciation of his efforts and contribution to her career.

A video shared by Brilla Media on X captured the coach inspecting the vehicle’s interior with a broad smile, visibly delighted by the gesture.

His reaction was accompanied by repeated expressions of gratitude and prayers for the footballer.

“Grateful! Grateful for the things I’ve seen. Grateful for the Lord’s blessings. Ain’t gonna stop no matter how,” he said in the video.

He continued with the words, “God bless you,” before adding, “All things are possible.”

The gift is another indication of the bond Oshoala has maintained with the club and the man who helped nurture her potential during her formative years.

FC Robo also acknowledged the presentation in a statement, describing it as a demonstration of gratitude and recognition for those who contributed to the striker’s journey.

“Your presentation of a Toyota Highlander to Coach Osahon is a beautiful demonstration of gratitude and a reminder that you have not forgotten the people who played important roles in your journey,” the club said.

The statement recalled that Osahon had been part of Oshoala’s development since her teenage years in 2009, providing guidance, support and an environment in which she could nurture her ambitions.

Oshoala’s relationship with FC Robo has also been reflected in her previous support for the club. In 2017, she donated an 18-seater bus to the team as a birthday gift to Osahon, underlining a connection that has continued long after her departure for Rivers Angels and her subsequent rise in the international game.

The latest presentation also draws attention to Osahon’s wider contribution to Nigerian women’s football.

Popularly known as The Oracle, the FC Robo founder has been involved in developing several players who have gone on to represent Nigeria, including Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday and Esther Sunday.

Oshoala has previously praised his work, highlighting the club’s contribution to the development of players for the country’s women’s national teams.

“Robo’s contribution to women’s football development in the country cannot be over emphasized, he has produced more players for the respective women’s national teams than any other club or academy in Nigeria,” she said in 2025.

She also acknowledged the role Osahon played in helping her and other players reach their present level.
