Nigeria’s Flamingos have received a $50,000 cash reward following their historic triumph at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with more incentives expected to follow from other stakeholders.
The reward was presented on Saturday night by Alhaji Saleh Ahmadu, a sponsor of the National Sports Commission (NSC), during a special reception organised to celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement.
The presentation represents an early financial recognition of the Flamingos’ success after they secured Nigeria’s maiden title in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Several prominent dignitaries attended the reception, including NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, Director-General Honourable Bukola Olopade and Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Beyond the initial $50,000 reward, the young Nigerian internationals are expected to receive additional incentives from other stakeholders in recognition of their historic achievement.

The Flamingos made history with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Japan in Saturday night’s final in Rabat, Morocco, bringing Nigeria its first ever title in the competition.
The triumph marks a significant breakthrough for the country’s youth women’s football programme, particularly after previous campaigns in which the team had fallen short of lifting the trophy.
Their victory over Japan also reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation as a major force in women’s football, extending the country’s success beyond the senior national teams.
