For the first time since the unforgettable era of Arsene Wenger’s “Invincibles”, Arsenal are Premier League champions again, ending a 22-year wait for England’s biggest domestic prize, Soccernet.ng reports.

The North London side secured the 2025/26 Premier League title following a dramatic conclusion to the title race that finally saw Mikel Arteta’s men crowned champions after years of heartbreak and near misses.

Arsenal took a major step towards the crown on Monday night with a tense 1-0 victory over Burnley. However, confirmation of their triumph only arrived on Tuesday after closest challengers Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The result left Arsenal four points clear at the summit with only one round of matches remaining, making it mathematically impossible for Pep Guardiola’s side to retain the title.

After finishing runners-up in three consecutive seasons behind Manchester City and Liverpool, Arsenal finally found the composure and consistency needed to cross the finish line.

Arteta’s success was built on a solid defensive structure anchored by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, while goalkeeper David Raya registered 19 clean sheets to claim a third successive Golden Glove award.

The Gunners also proved devastating from dead-ball situations, scoring 19 goals from corners the highest tally ever recorded in a single Premier League campaign.

Summer arrival Viktor Gyokeres added another dimension to Arsenal’s attack alongside Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, while teenage sensation Max Dowman made history as the youngest player to win a Premier League medal at just 16 years old.

Although Arsenal will officially lift the trophy after their final league fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday, celebrations could yet grow bigger. The club are now preparing for a UEFA Champions League final showdown against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

Across Nigeria, celebrations erupted almost immediately after Arsenal were confirmed champions. For supporters who had waited more than two decades, the triumph marked the end of years filled with disappointment, frustration and painful near misses.

Among the earliest high-profile reactions came from Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu, a key figure during the club’s golden years under Wenger.

Kanu celebrated the title success on social media, posting: “KAN U believe it??? Arsenal Forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners.”

Former Arsenal star and Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala also joined in the celebrations.

She wrote: “22yrs no b beans oo…. Arsenal deserve am. I’m glad they won this early, more rest period for them ahead of the UCL final.”
