ICAP Super Cup: Aguero lights the fuse as Asata blow Emene United away

Asata began their ICAP Super Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Emene United at New Haven Primary School in Enugu, with John Emmanuel Aguero scoring the opening goal.

Asata’s young side delivered an impressive performance to secure all three points, with Aguero, Musa Abba and Chukwumeren Kelechi finding the net.

Aguero set the tone with the opening goal, giving Asata an early boost in their Match-day One fixture before Abba doubled the advantage. Kelechi then completed the scoring to seal a comfortable victory for the team.

The result gives Asata a positive start to the competition as they look to progress through the tournament.

Aguero delighted after opening goal

Aguero, whose full name is Johnny Emmanuel Aneka, expressed his happiness after scoring the first goal of the match.

Speaking after the game, the forward said: “I feel so happy for winning a beautiful goal like this. I was so excited and the goal was amazing.”

The young attacker also backed himself to make a significant contribution to Asata’s pursuit of the trophy.

“Yes, I have what it takes to help my team win the tournament. I’m happy with doing everything, I’m ready for any team to help me. I think we should get there,” he added.

Coach Temile backs young players

Asata head coach, veteran gaffer Temile, praised the performance and reiterated his confidence in using young players throughout the competition.

“Of course,” Temile said when asked whether fielding young players was part of his plan for the ICAP Super Cup 2026.

He added that his approach to developing young talent was not new, saying: “Of course, I normally use young boys in any competition. That is why they say that I’m the only coach that can produce a day-old player.”

Temile also emphasised the reach of his coaching work across Enugu, claiming that his players feature in teams throughout the city.

Despite the emphatic opening victory, the coach warned against underestimating Asata’s next opponents.

“I will not say the next game will be a pushover,” he said, while expressing confidence that his team could secure another victory.
