Obiagu FC and New Haven FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the opening Group A game of the 2026 ICAP Super Cup at New Haven Primary School in Enugu on Sunday, 4 October.
Obiagu started brightly and controlled much of the midfield, with former Rangers International midfielder Agu Kenechukwu dictating play.
Their pressure was rewarded in the first half when Nebo Kingsley put Obiagu ahead.
Obiagu continued to threaten after taking the lead, with Okafor Ebuka and Hilly Diefe involved in several promising attacking moves.
Ebuka initiated one opportunity with a through ball to Diefe, who was brought down just outside the penalty area.
Kenechukwu stepped up to take the resulting free-kick, but his effort struck the defensive wall. Otiko then delivered a corner which was flicked away by a New Haven defender.
Diefe came close to doubling Obiagu’s advantage with a spectacular effort from a tight angle, but the New Haven goalkeeper produced a save to deny him.
The striker had another golden opportunity after being played through by Kenechukwu on a counter-attack, but he failed to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
Obiagu were also presented with another excellent chance when the New Haven goalkeeper spilled the ball, but Ebuka sent his effort over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.
New Haven eventually capitalised on Obiagu’s missed opportunities, with Arinze Lewandoski finding the equaliser to make it 1-1.
Lewandoski then had another opportunity to complete the comeback from close range, but he was unable to convert.
New Haven continued to threaten, with Odera Okpara firing straight at the goalkeeper after an attack developed from the right.
Obiagu pushed for a winner but could not find a way through, while New Haven also failed to complete the comeback.
The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw, giving both sides a point from the opening Group A fixture.
The competition continues at the same venue on Monday, with Gariki FC taking on New Layout FC at 4pm in Group B.
