Nigeria maintain ICC ranking status despite mixed movement in latest global update

Nigeria’s men’s and women’s cricket teams have retained their ICC ranking status following the latest annual update released by the International Cricket Council.

Nigeria’s men’s and women’s cricket teams have retained their places in the latest annual rankings released by the International Cricket Council despite mixed movement in the updated standings.

The latest rankings, published on Tuesday, applied 100 per cent weighting to matches played since May 2025 and 50 per cent weighting to results from the preceding two years.

While several leading cricket nations experienced changes at the top of the rankings, Nigeria’s teams successfully maintained their active ranking status after meeting the minimum match requirements set by the ICC.

The biggest movement for Nigeria came in the men’s rankings, where the national side dropped two places from 36th to 38th in the world.

Despite the decline, the team remains among the officially ranked nations globally an important marker for the continued development of cricket in the country.

Nigeria’s women’s team enjoyed greater stability, maintaining 26th position in the world following a consistent set of performances during the review cycle.

Globally, India retained top spot in the men’s rankings, although their lead over England narrowed from 14 points to 13.

In the women’s rankings, Australia remained number one, but their advantage over England was reduced from 18 points to 12 points after the annual recalculation.

The latest rankings update reflects the ICC’s rolling system, which places stronger emphasis on recent performances while gradually reducing the value of older results.
