Super Eagles perfect group-stage run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been tempered by growing fitness concerns within the Super Eagles camp following their 3-1 victory over Uganda.
Despite sealing maximum points in Group C, Nigeria emerged from the encounter with multiple injury worries that could impact head coach Eric Chelle’s plans ahead of the knockout rounds.

The 24-year-old started at right-back and completed the full match, but Super Eagles officials later confirmed the injury, with uncertainty surrounding his availability for the remainder of the tournament.
The setback leaves Nigeria short of natural options at right-back, with Bright Osayi-Samuel currently the only recognised player in the position. Chidozie Awaziem remains a possible alternative, although he is more accustomed to playing as a centre-back.
Alebiosu’s injury adds to existing worries for Chelle, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also not fully fit. The Chippa United shot-stopper was unavailable against Uganda, prompting Francis Uzoho to start between the posts.

Attacking options have also been affected, with Cyriel Dessers ruled out of the match due to a thigh problem. The 31-year-old is scheduled for a scan, delaying what would have been his first appearance for Nigeria at a major international tournament.

Chelle rotated his squad extensively against Uganda, giving minutes to several players as Nigeria’s depth helped them maintain momentum. However, the Super Eagles’ clean group-stage performance now comes with the added challenge of managing fitness issues as the competition moves into the knockout phase.
