The Federal Government of Zimbabwe has reinforced its commitment to the national football team by introducing a significant financial incentive ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
In a move aimed at boosting morale, President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa has approved a performance-based bonus for every victory, including their upcoming clash against Nigeria on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
The $150,000 reward will be shared among players, the technical team, and support staff, serving as a major motivation for the squad.

Government Strengthens Support for the Warriors
This incentive follows the government’s $1 million (approx ₦1.5 billion ) allocation for Zimbabwe’s participation in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Finals.

A government statement reaffirmed this financial backing and encouraged Zimbabweans to support the team in their quest for a historic World Cup qualification.
“This support underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to the growth and success of football in Zimbabwe. The nation is urged to rally behind the team as they carry our hopes and pride onto the field,” the statement read.

The Warriors yesterday showcased their resilience with a dramatic comeback against Benin Republic, fighting back from two goals down to secure a draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa.

That performance signals their determination heading into the huge fixture against Nigeria.
