Enyinnaya Kazie marks milestone as Stellenbosch knock Kaizer Chiefs out of Nedbank Cup

Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill described the moment as “overwhelming” after marking his 50th appearance for Stellenbosch FC with a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.

The Nigerian right fullback played the full 90 minutes at Cape Town Stadium as Stellenbosch once again eliminated the Soweto giants, following a similar outcome earlier this season in the Carling Knockout.

“I feel overwhelmed reaching this milestone, 50 appearances for Stellenbosch and to crown it with a victory over Kaizer Chiefs, one of the toughest teams here in South Africa,” Kazie told The Athletic NG.

“It has always been a tough game between Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs, but I thank God that today we overcame them. We put in a lot of effort, trained very hard, and we are happy we won.”

Stellenbosch made a fast start in a match delayed by 30 minutes due to crowd congestion. Ibraheem Jabaar opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Thabo Molaisane was injured during a clearance inside the box.

Devin Titus doubled the lead 12 minutes later with a powerful strike from outside the area, leaving Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen exposed.

Kaizer Chiefs pushed back after the break and were rewarded when Flavio Silva converted a penalty in the 54th minute, but Stellenbosch held firm under sustained pressure, with goalkeeper Sage Stephens producing a series of key saves.
