The Angola national football team will not participate in any friendly matches during the March FIFA international window after planned games against Jordan national football team and Iran national football team were cancelled, the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) announced on March 10.
The matches were originally scheduled in Dubai as part of Angola’s preparations for upcoming competitions. However, escalating tensions and ongoing conflict in the Middle East prompted a reassessment of the plans.
In its statement, the FAF highlighted that the worsening security situation required “a serious, cautious and responsible reassessment of all arrangements initially planned.”
“The safety and well-being of the national team must take priority over sporting considerations,” the federation said.
Efforts were made to explore rescheduling at least one of the matches. However, logistical, financial, and strategic concerns led the federation to abandon the idea.
“Organizing only one friendly under such circumstances would not have been rational or strategic given the resources required,” the FAF added.
Despite the cancellations, the Angolan FA confirmed its commitment to ensuring the team is adequately prepared for future competitions.
“The FAF remains fully committed to creating, at the appropriate time, the best conditions for Angola to continue asserting itself with dignity, ambition and competitiveness on the international stage,” the statement concluded.
The Palancas Negras will now focus on training and internal preparations while the March international window passes without matches.
