Kano Pillars appoint Daniel Ogunmodede as new head coach on two-year contract

Kano Pillars have appointed former Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede as their new head coach on a two-year contract, with the tactician expected to arrive alongside his own backroom staff.

Kano Pillars have appointed one of Nigerian football’s most highly regarded young tacticians, Daniel Ogunmodede, as their new head coach after concluding negotiations that gathered pace throughout the week.

According to Isma’eel Abba Tangalashi, Media Director, Kano Pillars FC, the former Remo Stars boss has signed a two-year contract with the four-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions and will arrive with his own backroom staff as the Sai Masu Gida begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

Ogunmodede takes charge following an impressive spell at Remo Stars, where he transformed the Ikenne-based club into one of the country’s leading sides and guided them to their first-ever NPFL title. His success also earned him recognition within the national team setup, serving as an assistant coach with the Super Eagles while building a reputation as one of the league’s most progressive managers.

The appointment shows Kano Pillars’ determination to build on the restructuring that has taken place behind the scenes ahead of the new season. The club recently unveiled a new management board led by Ahmad Musbahu and outlined an ambitious vision of restoring the former league champions to the summit of Nigerian football.

This is arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career. He leaves behind the long-term project he built at Remo Stars to take charge of one of the NPFL’s most demanding clubs, where expectations extend beyond competing for honours to returning the club to continental football.
