Anderlecht eye Chidera Ejuke: What Belgian giants must do to sign Super Eagles winger

Belgian giants Anderlecht are reportedly weighing up a move for Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke as the Nigerian appears set to leave Sevilla this summer.

According to reports in Spain, Sevilla are prepared to part ways with the 28-year-old as they continue efforts to balance their finances and comply with La Liga’s financial regulations.

Ejuke arrived at the Spanish club on a free transfer in 2024 after leaving CSKA Moscow, but his spell in Andalusia has failed to deliver the consistency many expected.

The winger has managed just three goals in 54 appearances across all competitions, with injuries and constant managerial changes disrupting his progress during two turbulent seasons at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.

Despite attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia in recent months, no formal move has materialised.

Now, reports suggest Anderlecht are ready to revive their long-standing admiration for the Nigerian international.

The Belgian side are familiar with Ejuke’s qualities after his previous spell in the country with Royal Antwerp, where he registered five goals and five assists in 39 appearances before earning moves to the Netherlands, Russia and eventually Spain.

His explosive dribbling ability, acceleration and willingness to take on defenders remain his biggest assets, qualities that could make him one of the standout attacking players in the Belgian Pro League.

What Anderlecht need to do

Sevilla’s stance appears straightforward. With only one year remaining on Ejuke’s contract and no indication that an extension is forthcoming, the Spanish side are willing to negotiate his departure.

Reports indicate Sevilla value the winger at around €5 million a fee considered manageable for a club of Anderlecht’s stature.

The Belgian outfit would also be expected to comfortably meet Ejuke’s reported weekly salary of around €17,000, removing another potential obstacle in negotiations.

If Anderlecht can satisfy Sevilla’s asking price and agree personal terms with the player, they could find themselves in a strong position to complete the transfer before pre-season gathers pace.

One issue likely to influence Ejuke’s decision is his international future. the winger remains part of Nigeria’s player pool and, at 28, will be determined to secure regular first-team football to strengthen his chances of remaining involved with the Super Eagles ahead of future major tournaments.

A move to Anderlecht would offer the opportunity to play consistently, compete in European competitions if the club qualifies, and rebuild the form that once made him one of Nigeria’s most exciting attacking talents.
