Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika will play no part in Club Brugge’s Belgian Super Cup showdown against Union Saint-Gilloise after the Belgian champions confirmed he has been ruled out through illness.
Club Brugge announced the 25-year-old’s absence when unveiling their 22-man squad for the curtain-raiser on the club’s official website, revealing that illness prevented the Nigerian international from being selected.
The setback comes at a time when Onyedika’s future remains the subject of intense speculation, with the midfielder heavily linked with a move away from the Jan Breydel Stadium this summer.
Onyedika, whose current contract has just one year remaining, is reportedly closing in on a switch to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
Reports suggest the Nigeria international has already agreed personal terms with the German club, while negotiations between Frankfurt and Club Brugge are progressing over a deal believed to be worth around €10 million.
Although his omission from the Super Cup squad was officially attributed to illness, it comes amid increasing uncertainty over whether he has played his final match for the Belgian champions.
