Official: Frankfurt complete signing of Super Eagles midfielder Onyedika

Raphael Onyedika has completed a long-awaited move to the Bundesliga after Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed the signing of the Super Eagles midfielder from Belgian champions Club Brugge.

The 25-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the German club until June 2031, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell in Belgium where he established himself as one of the country’s standout defensive midfielders.

Onyedika joined Club Brugge from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022 and quickly became a key figure in midfield, helping the club win two Belgian Pro League titles while also gaining valuable experience in the UEFA Champions League, where he made 24 appearances.

Frankfurt believe they have secured a midfielder entering the prime of his career.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche hailed the Nigerian’s qualities after the transfer was confirmed.

“Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad.”

The move marks another significant milestone in Onyedika’s steady rise through European football.

After developing at FC Midtjylland, the midfielder enhanced his reputation in Belgium with his ball-winning ability, composure in possession and tactical intelligence, performances that also cemented his place in Nigeria’s national team.

Since making his senior Super Eagles debut in 2022, Onyedika has earned 26 international caps and scored three goals, becoming an increasingly influential figure in Nigeria’s midfield.

His arrival is expected to strengthen Frankfurt’s options in the centre of the park as the Bundesliga side targets a successful domestic campaign and pushes for a return to the UEFA Champions League.
