Enyimba chairman Kanu Nwankwo has called for unity and patience from the club’s supporters as the nine-time Nigerian champions attempt to recover from a difficult opening to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
In a message addressed to the club’s fans, Kanu acknowledged the difficult circumstances surrounding the team and urged supporters to remain behind Enyimba as they search for their first victory of the campaign.
“Hard times are not forever, they come and go,” Kanu wrote, borrowing a line from a jingle by the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State to frame his message.
The statement came after Enyimba suffered a 1–0 home defeat to NPFL newcomers Inter Lagos, their third consecutive loss of the campaign. Ezekiel Moses scored the only goal in the 18th minute as Inter Lagos secured their first ever topflight victory.
The result left Enyimba as the only team yet to register a point at that stage of the campaign, adding to the pressure surrounding the Aba club.
Kanu, however, focused his message on the relationship between the team and its supporters, acknowledging that the fans had continued to turn up despite the disappointing results.
“The times have not been most favourable. We understand the weight of the disappointing losses and we are determined to make things right,” he said.

He specifically recalled the support Enyimba received during the defeat to Inter Lagos, noting that supporters remained with the team until the final whistle despite the result.
“Though it did not go our way, you supported us till the final minute and we do not take that support for granted,” Kanu added.
His appeal comes against the backdrop of a turbulent period around the club. Enyimba’s training session on Monday was reportedly disrupted after Sporting Director Daniel Eke arrived at the facility with officers of the Rapid Response Squad, with some club officials taken away and the session subsequently halted. The incident followed Sunday’s defeat to Inter Lagos.
Kanu’s statement did not directly address the reported training ground incident. Instead, the former Super Eagles captain pointed towards the immediate task facing the team which is the Wednesday’s home meeting with Sporting Lagos.
“Next for us is a home game against Sporting Lagos on Wednesday as we seek our first win of the season. A win can be a propeller,” he wrote.
Sporting Lagos will arrive in Aba looking to respond after suffering a 2–0 home defeat to Abia Warriors on Sunday, a result that also left them without a win in the campaign.
Enyimba knows that the midweek fixture is an opportunity to change the tone around a season that has begun with three defeats.

Kanu ended his message by appealing directly to the supporters to help drive the team forward, invoking the winning culture that has long been associated with the Aba club.
“We are used to victories and we are proud of that culture. Come, cheer us to victory as we kick off a resurgence. We will get it right.”
