French prosecutors have requested prison sentences for two former OGC Nice ultras accused of helping orchestrate the confrontation that left Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi and former Chelsea winger Jérémie Boga allegedly abused outside the club’s training ground last year.
The case stems from the violent scenes that unfolded in November 2025 following Nice’s 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Lorient, an incident prosecutor have described as a premeditated “ambush” targeting the two players.
According to reports from L’Équipe and AFP, more than 200 angry Nice supporters gathered outside the club’s training ground after the defeat, blocking the team bus as players attempted to leave.
The two defendants, both former members of Nice’s Populaire Sud ultras group, are accused of boarding the team bus and assuring players it was safe to disembark and speak with the waiting supporters.
While most of the squad passed through the crowd without incident, prosecutors say Moffi and Boga were singled out, allegedly subjected to insults, spat on and violently jostled by supporters.
Although neither defendant is accused of physically assaulting the players, prosecutors argue they played a central role in facilitating the confrontation.
Prosecutor Damien Martinelli told the court the attack would not have occurred without their actions, describing the events as an organised “ambush.”

French prosecutors have requested a two-year sentence, including one year in prison, for one of the accused.
For the second defendant, they are seeking a two-year prison sentence, an immediate committal order and the revocation of a previously suspended sentence.
Following the incident, Moffi and Boga both filed formal complaints, with OGC Nice also supporting legal action as French authorities launched an investigation into the events.
The case has reignited debate in French football over player safety and the conduct of supporter groups, particularly when post-match confrontations escalate into alleged violence.

The Nice Criminal Court is expected to deliver its verdict on September 11, when the two former ultras will learn whether they will be imprisoned over their alleged roles in the confrontation involving the Nigerian international and his former teammate.
The case remains one of the most high profile fan violence prosecutions in recent French football and is being closely watched for its potential implications on supporter accountability and player protection.
