Flying Eagles set to face Australia in pre-World Cup friendly

The Flying Eagles will play a warm-up game in Abuja ahead of the WAFU B U20 Championship opener scheduled to kick off in Ghana.

Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, will face Australia on Tuesday in a warm-up game ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The friendly will take place at the Complejo Deportivo Ruca Mapu in Santiago, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 local time (13:00 Nigerian time).

It comes after Nigeria were held 1-1 by hosts Chile in Rancagua on Saturday, with Ahmed Akinyele’s opener cancelled out by Felipe Faúndez.

Australia are drawn in Group D alongside Italy, Cuba and Argentina, while Nigeria will compete in Group F against Norway, Saudi Arabia and Colombia when the tournament begins this weekend.

Head coach Aliyu Zubairu led the Flying Eagles in training on Monday, with defender Marvelous Freedom sidelined through injury and midfielder Daniel Daga yet to join up with the squad.
