Didier Drogba has expressed his pride in Victor Osimhen and Africa’s emerging generation of footballers, saying their continued success proves his legacy is living on beyond his own playing career.
The Chelsea legend made the remarks during a live phone conversation with Osimhen after the Nigerian striker called him to settle a debate about how many goals Drogba scored during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Once Osimhen introduced television personality Frank Edoho, the discussion quickly moved beyond statistics and towards the Ivorian’s lasting impact on African football.
After Edoho thanked Drogba for inspiring generations of players across the continent, the former striker responded with a message that reflected both pride and optimism.
“And the legacy continues for these guys,” Drogba said.
“That’s why I’m so proud.”
The brief but heartfelt response highlighted the admiration Drogba has for the current generation of African stars, many of whom grew up idolizing the former Chelsea forward.

Osimhen himself has often spoken about the influence Drogba had on his development, with the Nigerian striker following in the footsteps of one of Africa’s greatest goalscorers by becoming a leading figure in European football.
Edoho also praised Drogba’s role in opening doors for African footballers, thanking him for everything he had done for players across the continent.
“Thank you for what you do for African footballers,” Edoho said during the conversation.
Drogba’s achievements continue to resonate long after his retirement. The former Ivory Coast captain remains one of the most decorated African players in history, winning multiple Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League while establishing himself as one of Chelsea’s greatest-ever players.
