Didier Deschamps reveals the problems still worrying him before Paraguay clash

France coach Didier Deschamps has described Michael Olise as an "extraordinary player", insisting the Bayern star now belongs among Les Bleus' world-class attacking talents after another dazzling World Cup display.

France coach Didier Deschamps has cautioned his players against believing their own hype after a commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden, insisting Les Bleus still have important weaknesses to address before facing Paraguay in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

The French swept aside Sweden with another polished attacking display to secure their place in the last 16, extending an impressive run that has seen them emerge as one of the tournament favourites.

Yet Deschamps made it clear that qualification alone changes nothing.

“It’s great to be in the top eight, but we’re only in the top eight,” he told reporters after the match.

“We have to keep that confidence. In four days, we’ll see what awaits us. We’ll have to face a different quality opponent.”

While France’s front line has dazzled throughout the competition, Deschamps believes there is still plenty of room for improvement before the knockout rounds become even more demanding.

“There are always problems,” he said.

“There are things to improve. Even today, apart from the first 15 or 20 minutes, we weren’t at our best.”

Didier Deschamps has warned France not to be fooled by their dominant 3-0 victory over Sweden, insisting Les Bleus still have flaws to fix ahead of a dangerous World Cup Round of 16 clash with Paraguay.

Didier Deschamps has warned France not to be fooled by their dominant 3-0 victory over Sweden, insisting Les Bleus still have flaws to fix ahead of a dangerous World Cup Round of 16 clash with Paraguay.

The France manager pointed to defensive details that still concern him despite his side conceding just twice in four World Cup matches.

“There’s always room for improvement because the teams we face will be stronger too,” he explained.

“They’ll attack better and defend better. It’s the World Cup. These are the best teams.

“We can improve certain points. We conceded only two goals, but we still gave away a few too many chances.

“Mike has been there to save us, but there are small adjustments we still need to make.”

Deschamps also expects Paraguay to present a completely different challenge after the South Americans stunned Germany to reach the last 16.

Rather than dwelling on France’s impressive attacking form, the veteran coach is already studying an opponent he believes possesses qualities capable of causing serious problems.

“I watched their game,” he said.

“Germany have a lot of quality too, but Paraguay are there because they deserve to be there.

“They have good players and they have that aggressiveness. It’s in their DNA to defend well and fight for everything.”

The 1998 World Cup winner dismissed suggestions that he would use memories of France’s difficult encounter with Paraguay nearly three decades ago as motivation for his current squad.

“If there’s one thing I don’t tell my players about, it’s what I did,” he joked.

“They weren’t born in 1998, or they were too young for it to mean anything.”

Instead, Deschamps plans a tactical approach built entirely around the present-day strengths of Paraguay.

“I’m going to give them all the information because preparing for a South American team requires something a little different,” he added.

France have scored freely throughout the tournament, but their manager’s message is attacking brilliance alone will not guarantee another World Cup triumph if the small imperfections remain unresolved.

With Paraguay next in their path, Deschamps wants his players focused less on their growing reputation and more on eliminating the flaws that could prove costly as the stakes continue to rise.
